Biography

Shots ring, sirens sound, a mother cries, another soldier is lost, these are the streets of regent park breeding ground to local artists Turk and Tyke, the voices for a new generation in one of Toronto’s most infamous neighbourhoods. Coming up in this harsh environment with a love for hip hop has produced a unique street sound moulded and shaped by personal trials and tribulations. It’s a sound that has earned the group not just local but national recognition on a unheard of independent scale.
Their success story began separately at the humble ages of 14 and 15 where, even at a young age, they had both already seen and witnessed so much in their early lives that they were compelled to put their thoughts and feelings on paper. Growing up in different sections of the same hood (turk from the north tyke from the south), the two had known each other for years but hadn’t had the opportunity to work together until early 2004 where they began working with pikihed productions, cmp studios, and ODT. From the very first track it became clear to all who heard them that this was a duo the country needed to hear, the country wouldn’t have to wait long. In 2007 TnT hit the scene hard with their debut mixtape “TnT – Bout2Blow” a collection of soulful street tales of wins, losses, friends that are gone, and enemies that would be. Each and every verse and line was heartfelt allowing you to feel their pain and take a trip into their world as their words ripped through the speakers and spoke to your soul. The result, nothing short of amazing, 4,000 units moved nationally with self financed distribution producing a buzz so big even major stores like HMV picked it up and put it on their shelves only to be sold out in days, and all this without 1 video or radio single.
But don’t expect these guys to get signed and forget where they came from, they are forever connected to the people of Regent Park. To them it’s more than a location, It’s home, and they are committed to helping not just themselves but the people around them. Their lyrics warn kids about the dangers and downfalls of thug life and try and show that there are options in life other than the ones they chose without preaching. Holding a annual R.I.P. BBQ to pay respect to lost ones is just one of the many ways TnT chooses to give back to the children and people of their community who have watched and supported them on their journey through life. It’s a time for smiles, laughter, good food, and relaxation for everybody in this strong and resilient community.
In their latest effort to spark a movement in the city of Toronto TnT created a huge collaboration between the major street artists within the city of Toronto entitled “My City” a epic 20 minute track that was featured on their latest mixtape “Bottom To The Top”. The project is still currently racking up sale numbers and had 1000 promotional CD’s distributed at Carribana.
Remembering how hard it was for them to get established in the music business TnT has begun taking younger artists from the neighbourhood and offering them the chance to record and develop their skills. Giving these young people another way out of their situation besides the route they feel they were forced to choose.
Born and raised in the ghetto with the feeling that they are bout 2 blow TnT now knows and believes that there is nothing that can stop their rise, from the bottom to the top.
